Uji terima ulang Sista Hanud Terintegrasi TD-2000B Rudal Meriam

Uji terima ulang Sista Hanud Terintegrasi TD-2000B Rudal Meriam dilaksanakan pada hari Selasa 29 Januari 2013 dan Senin 4 Februari 2013 di Balai Produksi dan Pengujian Roket (BPPR) LAPAN dan Pangkalan TNI AU, Kecamatan Cikelet, Kabupaten Garut, Jawa Barat.

Pelaksanaan uji terima ulang Sista Hanud Terintegrasi TD-2000B Rudal Meriam dibagi menjadi dua bagian yaitu uji penembakan meriam 57 mm AA (Anti Aircraft) tanggal 29 Januari 2013 dan uji penembakan misil tanggal 4 Februari 2013.

Pada penembakan meriam 57 mm AA dilaksanakan penembakan amunisi 57 mm HE (High Explosive) dengan sasaran balon udara dan penembakan amunisi 57 mm proximity dengan sasaran benda hexagonal yang diikat ke balon udara, sedangkan untuk penembakan misil menggunakan sasaran target drone S-70 buatan China.


Ukuran keberhasilan pada uji penembakan meriam 57 mm AA menggunakan amunisi HE adalah ketepatan tembakan dengan menghitung banyaknya proyektil yang masuk ke dalam lingkaran 15 mil pada layar monitor FCDV-1, apabila lebih dari 30 % proyektil masuk pada lingkaran ini maka pengujian dinyatakan memenuhi syarat.



Untuk pengujian amunisi 57 mm proximity sistem proximity fuse pada proyektil harus dapat bekerja dan meledak di dekat sasaran. Sedangkan untuk penembakan misil harus mengenai target drone secara langsung (direct hit).
  

Hasil uji penembakan amunisi 57 mm HE, seluruh proyektil yang berjumlah 27 butir masuk dalam lingkaran 15 mil yang terlihat di monitor FCDV-1. Untuk penembakan amunisi proximity, pada penembakan pertama proyektil meledak pada jarak 20 s.d. 30 m sebelum sasaran, pada penembakan kedua proyektil meledak pada jarak 2 s.d. 5 m dari sasaran. Sedangkan untuk penembakan misil mendapatkan hasil direct hit pada penembakan yang kedua.


 Dalam uji tembak ini didapatkan dua hal baru, yang pertama kinerja teknologi proximity pada amunisi 57 mm yang dapat meningkatkan kill probability meriam 57 mm dan yang kedua adalah kesulitan pembidikan misil dengan menggunakan elektro optik apabila sasaran terbang di bawah langit yang tertutup awan karena pantulan panas matahari pada tepi awan dapat mengalihkan penguncian elektro optik. 


Dengan selesainya Uji terima ulang Sista Hanud Terintegrasi TD-2000B Rudal Meriam maka kegiatan selanjutnya yang akan dilaksanakan adalah penggantian gearbox seluruh kendaraan materiil kontrak dengan yang menggunakan sistem syncromesh, pengujian kendaraan, pengiriman Alut Sista ke asrama Denarhanud Rudal 001 Dam IM, Lhokseumawe dan diakhiri dengan pelatihan operator dan teknisi di asrama Denarhanud Rudal 001.

Pengadaan Senjata PSU Kekuatan Korpaskhas

SOREANG, (PRLM).- Pengadaan Senjata Penangkis Serangan Udara (PSU) jenis yang dilengkapi radar dan rudal jarak pendek, akan menambah kemampuan dan kekuatan Korpaskhas. Secara bertahap kedatangannya mulai pada tahun 2013 – 2014 sehingga Korpaskhas akan mengirimkan perwakilan perwira, bintara dan tamtama untuk mendapatkan dan melaksanakan pelatihan teknik operasi senjata yang dilaksanakan di pabrik pembuat senjata PSU di negara Swiss.

"Dalam membangun kemampuan dan profesionalisme prajurit Paskhas, akan terwujud bila adanya konsistensi dan kesinambungan upaya pembinaan yang terus dilakukan secara terarah, terprogram dan berkelanjutan baik dari aspek moralitas yang tercermin dalam disiplin, jiwa korsa dan semangat juang yang tinggi maupun aspek olah keprajuritan yang dapat diandalkan," kata KASAU Marsekal TNI Imam Sufaat dalam rilis yang dikirimkan ke "PRLM", Kamis (18/10).

Keberhasilan prajurit Paskhas dalam mengemban berbagai penugasan baik di dalam negeri maupun luar negeri yang telah ditunjukkannya merupakan refleksi dari betapa pentingnya militansi dan profesionalisme bagi seorang prajurit. "Kita tidak boleh terlena dengan keberhasilan yang telah diperoleh, melainkan harus menjadi pemicu semangat untuk segera mewujudkan kesiapan dan kesiagaan dalam menyongsong tugas ke depan karena tantangan tugas yang dihadapi juga semakin tidak ringan," katanya.

Kasau mengharapkan, kedepan, militansi, semangat, motivasi, dedikasi, dan profesionalisme prajurit Paskhas tetap eksis sebagai salah satu Satuan Tempur Darat Angkatan Udara, sebagaimana eksisnya satuan tempur udara dalam mengawal, menegakkan serta mengamankan keutuhan wilayah NKRI di udara.

Sebagai kebulatan tekad untuk melakukan yang terbaik bagi negara dan bangsa, peringatan ulang tahun ke-65 Korpaskas yang jatuh pada Rabu kemarin (17/10) ini bertema ”Dengan Profesionalisme dan Dedikasi yang Tinggi, Korpaskhas Siap Menyongsong Modernisasi Alutsista dan Memberikan yang Terbaik untuk Bangsa dan Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia”. "Tema tersebut harus menjadi acuan setiap prajurit Korpaskhas dalam melaksanakan tugasnya. Dua makna yang harus dipahami dari tema tersebut yaitu pembinaan kualitas diri dan aktualisasi pengabdian," katanya.

Hydra 35 mm Remote Controlled Aerial Defense System

The Hydra remote-controlled aerial defense system with 35 mm anti-aircraft automatic cannon is meant for firing at aerial targets (aircraft, fixed and rotary-wing, manned and unmanned, cruise missile) flying at very low, low to medium altitudes.

The Hydra system is also capable of destroying lightly armored land and naval surface targets.

Coupled with aerial defense command and control unit (e.g. Blenda) the Hydra constitutes an air defense fire unit.


Target tracking data are being received through the command and control vehicle, worked out by passive sensors, battery-powered to avoid thermal signature of tha APU.
This enables stealth operating mode, contributing to low possibikity of detection.

Dual-feed arrangement, with magazines on either side of the receiver, enables fast and easy switching between two different types of ammunition, e.g. FAPDS and ABM.

The Hydra 35 mm aerial defense system is highly resistant against ECM, capable of high mobility and high battlefield survivability.

PT DI Mendapatkan Kontrak Pembuatan Target Data Receiver Sistem Senjata Grom TNI AD

Penanda tanganan kontrak rancang bangun TDR (Target Data Receiver) bersama PT DI bertempat di Sdirbinlitbang Pussenarhanud pada tanggal 13 Juni 2012 di tanda tangani oleh Dirbinlitbang Pussenarhanud Kol Arh Dedi Sholihin sebagai wakil dari Pussenarhanud dengan Direktur Teknik dan Pengembangan PT DI, Dita Ardonni Jafri, target akhir TA 2012 sudah tergelar TDR (Target Data Receiver) yang akan digabungkan dengan Mer 23 mm Zur composit Rudal Grom. TDR ini akan membantu dalam pendeteksi pesawat musuh dan data tersebut akan dikirimkan ke Satuan Tembak (Satbak).

Pengendalian tempur oleh Battery Command and Control Vehicle (BCCV) terhadap pucuk-pucuk Meriam 23 mm/Zur hybrid Rudal Grom menggunakan kabel sepanjang 200 m, sehingga hal ini mempengaruhi daerah gelar dalam rangka melaksanakan pertahanan udara terhadap obyek yang dilindungi. Apabila pengendalian tempur dalam bentuk koneksi data dan komunikasi tersebut tidak menggunakan kabel (wireless), maka selain diperoleh penggelaran meriam yang lebih luas, juga dapat berperannya setiap pucuk Meriam  23 mm/Zur hybrid Rudal Grom sebagai Satbak. Dengan demikian, konfigurasi Detasemen dapat dikembangkan menjadi 1 Radar, 2 BCCV, 4 Satbak Meriam 23 mm/Zur hybrid Rudal Grom dan 4 Satbak Rudal Poprad. Konfigurasi seperti ini diharapkan akan memperluas daerah pertahanan udara (coverage area) dan secara taktis, diperoleh kepadatan penyerangan sasaran sehingga efektivitas pertahanan udara semakin optimal.

 Berawal dari pemikiran tersebut diatas, maka pada TA 2010, Pussenarhanud Kodiklat TNI AD telah melaksanakan program Litbang yaitu Rancang Bangun Target Data Receiver (TDR) Sista Rudal Grom. Pada pelaksanaan program Litbang TA 2010, telah diperoleh tujuan dan sasaran yang diinginkan yaitu terwujudnya suatu peralatan TDR untuk pengendalian tempur meriam 23 mm/Zur, yang bertindak sebagai satuan tembak. Dari hasil evaluasi program, diperoleh beberapa hal perlu pengembangan program lebih lanjut demi kesinambungannya program Litbanghan. Hal-hal yang perlu dikembangkan dari pencapaian program Litbanghan TA 2010 antara lain perubahan bentuk dan ukuran serta kemampuan laptop sehingga lebih mudah dalam penggunaannya di lapangan. Selain itu karakteristik dan kemampuan radio perlu ditingkatkan untuk menjangkau jarak penyaluran data sasaran. Pengembangan komponen laptop dan radio pada proposal kegiatan program ini selain bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan unit TDR, juga mempertimbangkan kesesuaian operasional unit TDR ini di lapangan.


Untuk menjamin berkelanjutannya program Litbanghan Pussenarhanud, maka perlu diajukan program Litbang untuk mengembangkan program Rancang Bangun Target Data Receiver (TDR) Sista Rudal Grom sebagai program pengembangan untuk program kerja dan anggaran TA 2012. Melalui pengembangan sistem dan metode, diharapkan kesinambungan program Litbang ini dapat menjadi salah satu langkah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan Alut Sista Rudal Grom.

Laptop yang ada pada TDR Sista Rudal Grom hasil program Litbang TA 2010 walaupun memiliki kriteria semi rugged laptop, namun masih kurang portable, sehingga akan menyulitkan awak meriam untuk mengoperasikannya di lapangan. Pengembangan ukuran dan jenis laptop yang lebih bersifat portable dan memiliki GPS built-in, selain akan memudahkan operasional awak meriam, juga akan meningkatkan efisiensi penggelarannya.

Radio yang ada pada TDR Sista Rudal Grom hasil program Litbang TA 2010 merupakan radio komersial sehingga tidak memiliki kemampuan anti jamming terhadap gangguan transmisi data pada saat operasional. Pengembangan kriteria radio menjadi milspec radio dan berjenis manpack selain akan memudahkan operasional awak meriam dan meningkatkan kemampuan jarak jangkau transmisi data sasaran, juga akan meningkatkan efisiensi dan efektifitas penggelarannya.

Melalui pengembangan sistem dan peralatan pada model TDR, akan diperoleh model Target Data Receiver (TDR) Sista Rudal Grom yang memiliki kemampuan dan kesesuaian operasional yang tinggi. Dengan diperolehnya TDR yang handal, pucuk meriam 23 mm/Zur pada Sista Rudal Grom dapat berperan sebagai satuan tembak sehingga dapat digelar secara lebih fleksibel dengan jarak lebih jauh, dapat memperluas coverage area, serta secara taktis akan diperoleh kemungkinan menembak seawal mungkin demi terwujudnya efektivitas pertahanan udara.

South Korea unveils a new medium-range surface-to-air missile the Cheongung M-SAM

In December 2011, South Korea unveils its new new medium-range surface-to-air missile. The Cheongung missile will be deployed from 2013. In the second phase from next year until 2018, the ADD plans to turn the Cheongung into a ballistic interceptor missile, which would lay the groundwork for a Korean version of the Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC)-3.

South Korea Korea is the fifth country after Russia, France, Taiwan and Japan to have developed such a weapon. The U.S. is currently developing a high-tech medium-range surface-to-air missile in cooperation with Italy and Germany, under the name of MEADS (Medium Extended Air Defense Missile Systems).

The new SAM called ‘Cheongung’ (Iron Hawk) can intercept targets at altitude up to 15 km and at a range of about 40 km. LIG Nex1 plans to begin production in 2012 and according to the original schedule, begin replacing the first MIM-23 Hawk batteries beginning 2013.

Following the induction of the new Cheongung Seoul plans to offer the missile for export. Seoul estimates the market potential of such missiles at over US$2.3 billion. Apparently, the Russian Company that developed the system, Almaz Antey, thought the same as they kept the program alive after transferring the prototypes to Korea. The Russian version known as Vityaz could be ready to replace first generation S-300PS (5V55R) missiles, covering a similar intercept envelope, by the end of their service in 2015.

The South Korean Agency for Defense Development began development of the Cheongung in 2006, but started research in 2001 based on Russia's S-400 missile system. In cooperation with Russia, a Korean engineering team replaced a massive Russian radar system with a small device, which can be installed on a truck. The team also began research on a missile propulsion system based on the small Russian-made 9M96 missile. The radar is installed at the head of the missile to let it trace its own target.

ANTARAJAWABARAT. - Komandan Korpaskhas TNI Angkatan Udara, Marsma TNI Amarullah meminta seluruh pasukan Korpaskhas tidak terlena dengan sejumlah prestasi gemilang yang telah kesatuan baret jingga tersebut karena tantangan kedepan akan semakin berat.

Komandan Korpaskhas mengatakan itu saat memimpin upacara HUT Korpaskhas ke-64 di Lapangan Markas Komando Korpaskhas Kecamatan Margahayu, Kabupaten Bandung, Jawa Barat, Senin. "Terus tingkatkan kemampuan diri dengan berlatih keras dan disiplin. Keberhasilan Korpaskhas dalam penugasan menunjukkan betapa pentingnya sebuah profesionalisme bagi seorang prajurit. Salah satu esensi dari peringatan HUT ini adalah tekad melakukan yang terbaik bagi masyarakat bangsa dan negara," ujarnya.

Penerjunan 13 prajurit TNI AU dalam mengusir penjajah di Sambi Kotawaringin, Kalimantan Tengah pada tahun 1947 merupakan merupakan tonggak sejak yang perlu terus dikobarkan dalam menjaga Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia (NKRI).

Dalam setiap menjalankan tugasnya prajurit Korpaskhas harus selalu mengamalkan prinsip bekerja tanpa memperhitungkan untung dan rugi.

"Korpaskhas sebagian bagian dari TNI AU telah banyak memberikan sumbangsihnya bagi bangsa dan negara. Terlebih pada saat penjajahan Belanda. Korpaskhas telah ikut menyatukan sejumlah wilayah ke dalam NKRI," ujarnya.

Satuan yang dulu dikenal dengan Korp Pasukan Gerak Tjepat (Kopasgat) telah ikut aktif dalam pengabdian bangsa dan negara termasuk membantu masyarakat yang menjadi korban bencana alam. Terakhir Korpaskhas berhasil menemukan bangkai pesawat NC 212 di kawasan Bahoro, Sumatra Utara.

Adapun pengembangan alutsista (alat utama sistem persenjataan) yang dilakukan Korpaskhas adalah melengkapi diri dengan persenjataan QW-3 yang terus dimantapkan melalui latihan-latihan pengoperasiannya.

Tak hanya itu, untuk kedepannya pun akan mendatangkan penangkis udara kanon Oerlikon Kaliber 35 mm yang dilengkapi dengan radar dan rudal jarak pendek Chiron. Diharapkan pada akhir 2012 alutsista tersebut terus bertambah.

Pada upacara peringatan HUT Korpaskhas itupun digelar pertunjukkan senam balok yang bermakna uji ketahanan, ketangkasan dan kekuatan prajurit Korpaskhas dan atraksi "pasukan terjun payung" sebanyak 64 prajurit dengan membawa berbagai atribut kesatuannya.

The "Iron Dome" system deployed to protect the Israeli population from short-range rockets is also efficient against aircraft up to an altitude of 32,800ft (10,000m).
A Rafael source said that during the deployment of the first three systems the Israeli air force has learned about the extra capability.


"It will serve as another layer in our anti-aircraft deployment that consists of upgraded Hawk and Patriot missiles," the source said.

In the past few months, Iron Dome batteries have intercepted more than 90% of the BM-21 Grad and Kassam rockets launched from Gaza into Israel.


A mobile defence system aimed at intercepting short-range rockets and artillery shells, Iron Dome avoids causing collateral damage by detonating a target warhead away from the defended area. Its interceptor has an effective range up to 70km (38nm), according to Rafael.

Foreign sources have indicated that Singapore has already purchased the Iron Dome system, with other countries also likely to show interest.

JAKARTA- Istana Negara, Jakarta bakal dipasangi senjata antiserangan udara. Senjata ini merupakan sebagian dari tujuh senjata antiserangan udara baru yang akan menjadi milik Korps Marinir TNI Angkatan Laut.
Komandan Korps Marinir Mayor Jenderal Alfan Baharudin mengatakan persenjataan seharga total 15 juta dollar AS atau Rp 135 miliar itu sebagian bakal dipasang di sekeliling Istana Negara, Jakarta, untuk pengamanan serangan dari udara.
"Sekarang sudah mulai dirakit dan akan dikirim ke sini akhir tahun," kata Mayor Jenderal Alfan Baharudin, Jumat (13/5).
Senjata itu berupa kendaraan tempur yang dilengkapi meriam kaliber 35 milimeter ini dan dibeli dari Swiss, tapi dirakit oleh perusahaan di China.
Alfan menjelaskan, selain untuk antiserangan udara, peralatan ini juga bisa dipergunakan untuk serangan darat. Sebagian senjata ini juga akan ditempatkan di Markas Korps Marinir di Kwitang dan Markas Brigadir Infanteri Marinir di Cilandak, Jakarta Selatan.
Tujuh senjata tersebut juga dibeli untuk melengkapi kebutuhan Batalion Artileri Pertahanan Udara Marinir dan mengganti peralatan lama yang umurnya sudah sangat tua. Peralatan baru pun digunakan untuk operasi-operasi militer, operasi tempur amfibi, dan pelatihan militer rutin.
Korps Marinir, kata Alfan, juga membeli lagi kendaraan tempur Tank BMP3F dengan senjata kaliber 100 milimeter buatan Rusia sebanyak 54 unit atau setara dengan satu batalion.
Dengan penambahan ini, Marinir akan memiliki tiga batalion resimen kavaleri. Tank ini dipesan sejak 2009 dan sudah tiba 17 unit.
Sekedar diketahui, tank BMP3F mampu melaju dengan kecepatan 70 kilometer per jam saat berada di darat. Sedangkan kalau di air mencapai 12 knot per mil. Tank ini menggunakan mesin buatan Ukraina. "Ini tank terbesar di Tanah Air," ujar Alfan.
TNI juga berencana membeli satu skuadron pesawat jet latih T-50 Golden Eagle buatan Korea Selatan untuk menggantikan jet latih Hawk MK-53 milik TNI Angkatan Udara yang sudah usang.

Surface-to-Air PYthon-5 and DERby - Short-Range Air Defence System (SPYDER-SR)

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will be replacing its 30-year old RAPIER air defence system with the Surface-to-air PYthon-5 and DERby – Short-Range (SPYDER-SR) ground base air defence system. The SPYDER-SR will form part of the 3rd Generation RSAF Networked Air Defence capability that builds upon the existing multi-layered air defence system to further strengthen Singapore's air defences. An all-weather air defence system, the SPYDER-SR will enhance the RSAF's capability to effectively deal with a wide spectrum of aerial threats.

The capabilities of the SPYDER-SR air defence system include :

-Anti-aircraft and anti-missile capability. The SPYDER-SR is a quick reaction surface-to-air missile system capable of engaging a wide spectrum of aerial threats ranging from fighter aircraft, helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to precision-guided munitions. The SPYDER-SR is able to employ both the Python-5 and Derby missiles which are fitted with infrared imaging and radio frequency seekers respectively.

-Enhanced effectiveness. Compared to the RAPIER, the SPYDER-SR possesses a longer range for interception and higher altitude. These enhanced capabilities will provide Singapore with an extended air defence envelope against aerial threats. It is also equipped with a 360 degree engagement capability and is able to engage multiple aerial targets simultaneously.

-Enhanced awareness and responsiveness. Integrated into the RSAF’s Networked Air Defence system, the SPYDER-SR will be able to tap on a real-time integrated air picture created by the RSAF’s wide array of sensors. This gives the SPYDER-SR the ability to respond faster and engage targets with greater precision.

Alleged Break-In Clouds S. Korea-Indonesia Deal

SEOUL - South Korean intelligence officials allegedly broke into the hotel room of a visiting Indonesian delegate last week to copy computer files on possible arms deals between the two governments, according to sources here and Feb. 21 news reports.

Seoul officials are expressing concern that the episode could provoke a diplomatic feud and harm the government's efforts to sell its T-50 supersonic trainer jet and other defense equipment to the Southeast Asian nation.

The Indonesian government has asked Seoul's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to figure out just what happened, said ministry spokesman Cho Byung-jae.

"We are verifying the facts, and we agreed to inform the Indonesian authorities as soon as we are done," Cho said.

Officials with the National Intelligence Service (NIS) denied the allegations and declined to elaborate.

South Korean police has been investigating the Feb. 16 incident, which occurred at the Lotte Hotel in central Seoul, where a 50-strong Indonesian delegation was staying.

The delegation led by Hatta Rajasa, coordinating minister for the economy, and Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, arrived here Feb. 15 for a three-day run to discuss ways of boosting economic ties with Seoul.

Indonesia's potential purchase of South Korea's T-50 Golden Eagle trainer aircraft was referred to as a top topic, as Jakarta has shortlisted the T-50, co-developed by Korea Aerospace Industries and Lockheed Martin of the United States, as one of the three candidates for its advanced jet trainer requirement.
Competitors are said to be Russia's Yak-130 and the Czech-built L-159B, according to the Defense Acquisition Procurement Agency.
According to police officers, three unidentified intruders, two men and one woman who are believed to be members of the NIS, broke into a suite on the 19th floor of the five-star hotel.
The break-in was made right after most of the delegation departed for the South Korean presidential office for a courtesy call on President Lee Myung-bak.
The alleged trespassers may have used a USB memory stick to copy files from one of the two laptop computers left in the room but fled after being witnessed by an aide to a visiting Indonesian envoy.
Whether or not the intruders succeeded in getting access to the computer files remains unclear, according to the police. The laptops were handed over for an investigation, but the Indonesian aide requested their return the next day.
"If that's true, I'm just surprised that this kind of amateurish operations had been conducted," a military source said. "Only thing we can guess is that the Lee Myung-bak administration could be too pressed to make the first sale of the T-50 following the back-to-back defeats in the trainer contests in the United Arab Emirates and Singapore for the past years."
Citing an unidentified government source, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper said the agents "were trying to figure out the Indonesian delegation's negotiating strategies" regarding the potential purchase of the T-50, K2 Black Panther main battle tank and the K30 Biho 30mm self-propelled twin-gun system.

The KAI-Lockheed team has fought an uphill battle to explain to potential customers the T-50's performance-to-price ratio after it lost to Italy's M-346 jet both in the UAE and Singapore because of the "luxury" jet's price of about 25 billion won ($22 million).
The single-engine T-50 features digital flight controls and a modern, ground-based training system. It is designed to have the maneuverability, endurance and systems to prepare pilots to fly next-generation fighters, such as the Eurofighter Typhoon, the F-22 Raptor, the Rafale and the F-35 Lightning II.
The jet has a top speed of Mach 1.4 and an operational range of 1,851 kilometers.
Potential customers for the South Korean trainer jet include the United States, Iraq, Greece and Poland.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the Jakarta Post, Hatta claimed the intrusion was a "misunderstanding." The Indonesian economy minister said the three intruders were actually hotel guests who happened to enter the wrong room.
"Instead of entering their own room, 1961, the guests unintentionally entered room 2061, which belonged to an Industry Ministry official," Hatta said. "But the misunderstanding was immediately cleared up. And the laptop which was unintentionally opened by the guests consisted only of PowerPoint slide shows about the condition of our industry, which would be presented by Industry Minister M. Hidayat before our Korean counterparts."

Burma's Air Defense Force Deploying New SAMs

Burma’s Air Defense Force intends to deploy the S 125 Neva/ Pechora surface-to-air missile after Burmese army soldiers spotted an unidentified flying object assumed to be an Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) flying over eastern Shan State in early January.

Originally from Russia, the S-125 Neva/Pechora is a kind of surface-to-air-missile (SAM) that has a shorter effective range and lower engagement than others.

“Air Defense Force troops will be in training between this month and April at Burma’s Air Defense Force schools,” said Khuensai Jaiyen, the editor Thailand-based Shan Herald Agency for News (SHAN). “The training involves the UAV that was spotted in January.”

The UAV flew across Namhsan Township and was identical to a UAV spotted by government troops in the last week of December over Kengtung Township. The Burmese Air Force has reportedly been ordered to shoot the UAV down if spotted again in Burmese airspace.

Normally, Burmese Air Defense Force battalions are equipped with 57 mm and 40 mm anti-aircraft auto-cannons, 37 mm anti-aircraft guns and Russia-made IGLAs, a portable anti-aircraft missile. Burma's military has sent junior Air Defense Force officers to Russia to be trained in portable air defense missile systems.

During the NATO air strikes in Yugoslavia, an F-117 stealth aircraft was shot down by a Serb S-125 air defense system in 1999.

As of December 2008, over 200 Pechora-2M upgraded ramp-launched missiles had been ordered by Egypt, Syria, Libya, Burma, Vietnam, Venezuela and Turkmenistan, according to the website

Burma's military has two Air Defense Force schools, one based in Myitkina in Mandalay Division and the other in Hmawbi in Rangoon Division, and eight Air Defense Force commands.

Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System


Chile is joining Finland, and several other countries, and adopting the Norwegian NASAMS (Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System) for their air defense needs. Chile was particularly impressed by the track record of reliability NASAMS has compiled. Norway developed this system in the early 1990s and deployed the first missiles and radars in 1995.

NASAMS uses the American AMRAMM radar guided air-to-air missiles, but fired from a six missile container, instead of an aircraft. This ground based AMRAAM weighs 159 kg/350 pounds and has a range of 30 kilometers (it's radar can see out 50-70 kilometers), and can hit targets as high as 21 kilometers (65,000 feet).

What makes the AMRAMM so effective as a SAM is the capabilities of its guidance system (which is about two thirds of the $400,000 missiles cost.) Testing also revealed that AMRAAM could be used to shoot down cruise missiles. Chile believes the AMRAAM (also combat proven) used by NASAMS is a better long term choice for air defense, because the United States is constantly updating the missile.

Norway pioneered the use of AMRAAM as a surface-to-air missile, and other systems have been developed using AMRAAM. But the Norwegian version is seen as the best of the lot. Spain, Holland,Finland and the United States also use NASAMS.

KUALA LUMPUR – Tentera Darat (TD) berpuas hati dengan prestasi dan kemampuan peluru berpandu jarak dekat (VSHORAD) jenis lancaran bahu (Manpads) terbaru, FN-6 dalam menangani ancaman pesawat tempur musuh.
Bagaimanapun, Panglimanya, Jeneral Datuk Zulkifeli Mohd. Zin enggan mengulas sama ada pasukan itu akan menambah jumlah peluru berpandu buatan China itu atau tidak kerana tegas beliau, sebarang pendedahan mengenainya boleh membawa implikasi kepada pertahanan negara.
“Sudah tentu kita sangat berpuas hati dengan prestasi serta kemampuan FN-6 dalam menangani ancaman aras rendah, tetapi kami tidak boleh mendedahkan sama ada bakal berlaku penambahan aset ini atau tidak kerana ia rahsia sulit keselamatan negara,’’ katanya.
Beliau berkata demikian ketika diminta mengulas mengenai prestasi kumpulan pertama FN-6 yang baru sahaja memasuki inventori TD selepas menyampaikan perintah ulung pertamanya selaku Panglima TD yang baru di Kem Perdana Sungai Besi di sini hari ini.
FN-6 yang kini berada di bawah kendalian Gerup Artileri Pertahanan Udara (GAPU) merupakan peluru berpandu generasi ketiga yang mempunyai kemampuan menyerang pesawat dan helikopter musuh pada jarak enam kilometer serta ketinggian mencecah 3.5 kilometer.
Kemasukan FN-6 itu menjadikan GAPU kini memiliki empat variasi sistem VSHORAD berbeza iaitu Igla (Rusia), Anza MKII (Pakistan) dan Starburst (United Kingdom) selain sistem peluru berpandu tercanggih jenis jarak dekat iaitu JERNAS yang kalis penyerakan (diumpan).
Bagaimanapun, jumlah kumpulan pertama peluru berpandu itu yang diterima TD terlalu kecil menyebabkan ramai pihak khususnya pemerhati dan penganalisis ketenteraan mendesak supaya jumlah berkenaan ditambah kepada bilangan yang bersesuaian.
Dalam pada itu, Zulkifeli memberitahu, segala pemodenan yang dirancang bagi TD khususnya dalam usaha untuk mempertingkatkan kuasa tempur akan dilaksanakan dalam Rancangan Malaysia Ke-10 (RMK-10).
Namun tambahnya, walaupun segala pembelian aset baru itu dirancang bagi menggandakan lagi kekuatan tempur TD, ia tetap bergantung kepada kedudukan kewangan kerajaan kerana pemodenan sesebuah angkatan tentera bakal menelan belanja yang bukan sedikit.
“Kita akan meneruskan semua pemodenan yang dirancang sesuai dengan pelan pembangunan strategik TD iaitu ‘Army 2 10 plus 10’ dan langkah ini perlu selari dengan kemampuan modal insan.
“Namun, ingin saya tegaskan bahawa dengan aset yang ada sekarang sebenarnya TD cukup berkemampuan untuk mempertahankan keselamatan negara ini,’’ katanya tanpa memperincikan apakah bentuk perolehan baru itu.

China Offers Malaysia Missile Technology Transfer

Malaysia has agreed in principle to buy medium-range surface-to-air missiles from China and in return China will transfer its technology in very short-range air defence system to Malaysia.

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said the procurement would be made under the 9th Malaysia Plan (2006-2009) as part of the continuing Armed Forces Modernisation Programme.

Addressing a news conference yesterday after witnessing the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the matter, he said that details of the procurement and offset programme would be finalised later should Malaysia give its full commitment.

China National Precision Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CPMIEC) is offering the FN-6 very short-range air defence system to Malaysia should the country purchase its KS-1A, the medium-range surface-to-air missiles.

The shoulder-launched FN-6 missile has an engagement range of 6km and altitude of 4km while the vehicle-launched KS-1A has an engagement range of 50km and altitude of 27km.

The industrial offset programme of the FN-6 offered to Malaysia is inclusive of special test facilities, universal equipment, special tools, manufacturing process documents, training and technical support, and capable of an annual output of 100 FN-6 missiles.

'Asean Should Cooperate to Beef up Defence'

KOTA TINGGI: The armed forces yesterday tested its newly-acquired FN-6, a third generation passive infrared portable air defence system developed by China.

The surface to air missile, designed to engage low-flying targets at a range of 6km and a maximum altitude of 3.5km, is the latest addition to the armed forces' inventory.

The missile firing exercise called "Panah Jaguh 1/2010", at Tanjung Logok here, also saw the testing of the Target Acquisition Radar Systems (TRML-3D), supplied by the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co (EADS).

Zahid said armed forces personnel must be prepared at all times with the best artillery and equipment.

He said Asean countries needed to strengthen knowledge-sharing in defence technology and reduce dependence on technology from Western countries.

Zahid, who had just returned from Hanoi, added that although Malaysia had acquired the latest defence technology from the West, it could, at the same time, share them with its neighbours, with the consent of the suppliers.

He also said the armed forces would send a medical team to Afghanistan. "The government is waiting for the green light from Afghanistan to send the team of 60 personnel. The deployment of the team is an effort to show our country's commitment to promoting peace in the country."
